Reliqua had a great day in Swords Castle! We provided public demonstration of ancient technologies including a pottery firing, bronze casting and flint knapping demonstration. Check out our facebook page for more pics!
Below our demonstrators talk to the public about the ancient technologies on display
Molten bronze cast into a clay and wax molds. Our furnace on the day was built using clay from a lake bed and replicated on an actual intact furnace from the bronze era in Ireland
A small clamp kiln fires pottery we made. The sand box was utilised to prevent scorching to the earth. Clamp kilns in the archaeological record are made by digging shallow pits straight into the earth.
